Defining Dylan

Program Notes This daylong educational symposium explored the diverse musical styles and cultural traditions that have infused Bob Dylan’s oeuvre. Topics addressed included Dylan’s Minnesota roots and Jewish upbringing, folk music before and after Dylan, and Dylan’s connection with gospel music. Cultural historians Greil Marcus, Daphne Brooks, Robert S. Cantwell, and David E. Kaufman presented and the day was moderated by Robert Santelli, Executive Director of the GRAMMY Museum, author of The Bob Dylan Scrapbook, and former artistic director of Experience Music Project, where he helped create the Dylan exhibition.
