IN THE
COMMUNITY
The GRAMMY Museum is committed to cultivating musical awareness and appreciation through its community efforts. By bringing a diverse sampling of panels, guests can network, as well as expand their knowledge of the history and business of music.
Community
Engagement
The GRAMMY Museum’s Community Engagement Department brings music’s past, present, and future to the doorsteps of our diverse communities.
City Sounds • Quarterly • Public but requires RSVP
Sounds of LA is a quarterly concert series highlighting the diverse local music that Los Angeles has to offer while seeking to establish the GRAMMY Museum as a supporter of the vibrant local music scene in Los Angeles. Each concert will feature several musical acts from a neighborhood of LA, highlighting a different community each program. Further, each concert will be paired with an enrichment event/activity to happen in the highlighted neighborhood. By hosting local bands at the museum, we are giving them a new platform and are able to cross-pollinate audiences: exposing museum supporters to new local artists and attracting new audiences to the museum itself.
Girl Scout Programs • Bi-Annual
The GRAMMY Museum will welcome Girl Scouts from around Southern California to participate in a speed mentoring session with women from across the music industry.
Mike Curb Mentorship & Careers In Music Program • Year-Round
Under the umbrella of the Mike Curb Mentorship & Careers In Music Program, the GRAMMY Museum has provided high school and college students the opportunity to learn about the music industry from leading experts in the field. These mentorship sessions, titled “Backstage Pass” events, are held both in the Museum’s Clive Davis Theater as well as at venues around Los Angeles and in the Museum’s affiliate locations in Mississippi and New Jersey.
Depending on the preference of the artist and location of the program, as few as 10 students and as many as 200 per event are given the opportunity to speak with and ask questions of musicians, tour managers, lighting technicians, sound engineers, executives from record labels and others, all with the goal of increasing access to careers in music for students in underserved communities. Many students attend multiple events over the course of a school year and all who attend are sent information about those with whom they will be speaking in advance. Additionally, this program has become an entryway for students to participate in other GRAMMY Museum education programs including Summer Sessions and After School Sessions, both of which highlight career pathways in the music industry.
